Dr. Richardson has not received any payment directly or indirectly from any of the IOL manufacturers that he discusses on this blog. As a cataract surgeon he uses many of the IOLs discussed and has his own preferences based on experience. However, he has no financial interest in any company he discusses other than owning a few shares of publicly traded stocks. These investments are of such little significance that were his comments to result in a doubling of a stock’s value the resulting gain in his net worth would not even be enough to pay for a new set of brakes on his car. In other words, he has no financial incentive to rave up or rant down a particular IOL or product.
Dr. Seibel has consulted for multiple ophthalmic technology companies (as a result of his expertise in the field of phacodynamics), and is often asked to give presentation at national and international meetings. He does from time to time receive honoraria, as well as hotel and travel expenses. These amounts are within the norms for speakers of his experience and Dr. Seibel has a solid reputation as an honest and impartial speaker.
